From Michael Traves of the Trials Canada Initiative for ATA Club members who do not automatically receive Tuesday updates.
Well, it has been a very interesting couple of days since my last note. Questions have been raised as to the process used to select the 2025 Nationals and what the heck is the Canadian Trials Initiative anyway?
With respect to the Canadian Trials Initiative, we are a small group of 4 people who are really passionate about pulling the Canadian Trials community together to help Trials as both a sport and a recreational activity in Canada. We do this as volunteers on our own time and expense. The feeling being, if we can all work together (regardless of club affiliations CMA,MCC,WTC, or none) it will improve Trials for everyone. 3 years ago, we made a project proposal to the FIM for funding to help support our efforts. The FIM approved our funding request and over the past 3 years we have been doing what we can to pull the Trials community together. Some of the key efforts have been these weekly communications, our support of training camps, a focus on youth and women in trials, our support of the Canadian TdN team (men and women), the rewriting of the CMA rule book, building relations with FIM NA and the NATC, and support in facilitating the Canadian Nationals (including opening them to non-CMA riders). We also developed a webpage with the hope of creating a repository of Trials information including results from across the country but that needs a lot more work.
These notes are posted to the Trials Initiative Facebook page but we are also really happy to include anyone who wants to receive them as a weekly email I have included a list of people who are currently on the list representing the 19 “clubs” across the country, the Motorcycle associations and the Trials importers. I use the term “club” loosely as it can be anything from a couple of people who like putting on events each year to large organizations that have a board of directors… etc.
With respect to the 2025 Nationals Selection – the rules are a bit vague in that (in section F) they state that requests will be sent in by a date “specified annually”… Sports Code | CMA . We have not yet tackled the CMA Sports Code but as with most things it could be improved so that there is less confusion. On the positive side we are really happy to hear that more than one club is actually interested in hosting so we will need to revisit our decision. I am also happy to note that EOTA has been added to our list of clubs for weekly emails. And that Eric has passed the torch to Linus for the CVMG QC. Welcome all !!!
Also great to get a few kind words this week:
“…Many thanks for your enthusiastic support and organisation for the sport we love.
Best wishes for the future.”
“ I do admire all the work you have put in for trials in Canada. A thankless task at times.”
Much appreciated !!!
Keep your feet on the pegs,
Michael.
